Substance Misuse

Drug addiction causes misery to individuals, families and communities. Changing legislation and mixed messages in the media can lead young people into making dangerous decisions about their personal health and safety. Peer influence can also lead to students putting themselves and those around them at risk.

Performance in Education’s challenging substance misuse performance explores the stark realities of choice and consequence. Supported by a highly interactive workshop and a legacy pack of teaching materials students have the opportunity to discover:

which substances are classed as illegal drugs

the medical effects of substance misuse

the legal implications of possessing and sharing illegal substances

the personal and social implications of substance misuse

how to make informed choices about illegal substances

how to handle peer pressure situations that may compromise their health and safety

This project is designed for both Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4. It links directly with National Curriculum aims and guidelines for PSHEE: Personal Wellbeing and Citizenship.
