Young Driver Safety
Staying safe behind the wheel involves learning how to stay in control of yourself as well as your vehicle. By creating this awareness in young people this project is able to make a distinct difference to their driving behaviour.
Students investigate their own positive attitudes to personal safety and responsibility whenever they are in a vehicle as either a passenger or driver. Engaging workshop techniques challenge preconceptions and develop solutions so that young people feel that they are making informed and sustainable decisions about their safety, their behaviours and their responsibility to other road uses and pedestrians.
The programme enables students to:
develop and practise skills that will encourage responsible and informed decisions.
explore responsibilities to themselves, passengers and other road users.
promote debate and discussion about how and why young people are influenced by peer pressure.
raise awareness of how alcohol and other stimulants can impair judgement.
challenge irresponsible behaviour, and examine the consequences of this behaviour
recognise the value of using availble safety measures, especially seatbelts
promote a legacy of safe and enjoyable driving.
